Call for general strike on 2nd September

Federations of workers from all sectors and service enterprises joined the 11 central trade unions to come together under a single banner on 26th May 2015 for the All-India convention of workers in Malvankar Hall, New Delhi.

Representatives of trade unions from across the country participated in this convention. Activists of unions from banking, insurance and several public sector and government employees participated enthusiastically.

A delegation from Mazdoor Ekta Committee participated in the Convention.

The convention gave a general strike call for 2nd September in opposition to the ongoing anti-worker, anti-people and anti-national policy being implemented by the central government. The convention noted that attacks on the rights of workers are being intensified in the interests of Indian and foreign capitalists, in order to increase their profits. Labour laws are being revised against the interests of workers to broaden the loot and exploitation of the working class.

The convention declared the opening defence, insurance, railways and various sectors to foreign investment, and disinvestment in various enterprises of the public sector as anti-national and anti-people. It severely condemned the land acquisition ordinance.

Condemning the consolidation of banks and write-off of non-performing assets as anti-social, the convention passed a resolution opposing this. It also accused the central government of ignoring the 12-point demands of the central trade unions. The convention supported the decision of the central government employees to go on an indefinite strike on 23rd November 2015.

The convention demanded an immediate halt to the anti-worker revision of the labour laws. It called on all the unions and federations of workers to build their broad unity and intensify their practical struggles. We must prepare ourselves for a united country-wide movement in the course of calling a halt to and opposing the anti-worker, anti-people and anti-national policies of the government.
