What is the cause of the crisis of agriculture? What is the way out?

An unprecedented mass united protest of peasants from all over the country took place on 20th November, on the eve of the winter session of Parliament. It was organised by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, an umbrella body of 184 peasant organisations. Their demands included a one-time waiver of bank loans to farmers and guaranteed public procurement of all crops at minimum support prices, of at least one and a half times the average cost of production, as recommended by the Swaminathan Committee.

Way out of crisis of Agriculture

I am writing to thank you for carrying the important and educative article entitled 'What is the way out of the crisis of agriculture?' in the May 1-15, 2017 issue of MEL. This article is an outstanding example of Marxist-Leninist analysis of the concrete problems faced by the people of the country engaged in the agricultural sector, accounting probably for 70% of the population. The article begins by noting the recent directive from the Madras High Court to the Government of TN to waive all farm loans through cooperative banks.

Steep fall in the Rupee — consequence of integration with the imperialist system

There has been a lot of noise in recent weeks about the external exchange value of the Rupee, which has fallen by nearly 10 percent in the last one month and nearly 20 percent since April 2013. The prices of imported goods have risen and this has had a cascading effect on prices across the spectrum of commodities.

Copenhagen climate summit ends without global agreement: Solving the environment crisis within capitalist boundary conditions is impossible

Over 45,000 people from all over the globe – many from countries where livelihoods and life itself are severely threatened by climate change – went to Copenhagen in December 2009 in the hope that a new global agreement on climate change would be reached there. However what emerged from the conference in which 192 countries participated was only an acknowledgement that the US and five other countries had struck a deal!
