Paving the way for accelerated loot and plunder of people’s assets
The UPA government is claiming that it finally has achieved an “all-party consensus” on the proposed new land acquisition bill, titled the Right to Fair Compensation, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Bill, 2011.
A draft of the Land Acquisition and Relief & Rehabilitation Bill (LARR) was approved by the Cabinet and tabled in Parliament on September 7, 2011 and referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee on September 15. The Standing Committee is to submit its report on the draft in 3 months.
The proposed amendments to the Land Acquisition Act are aimed at legitimising the so-called ‘right’ of capitalist monopolies to get hold of whatever tracts of land they want in order to reap maximum profits.
The UPA government is planning to present a draft Bill on Land Acquisition before parliament during the monsoon session. For the past few years, farmers all across the country have been waging militant struggle against forcible land acquisition.
