The murder of Gauri Lankesh must be condemned! The right to conscience must be defended!

Gauri LankeshGauri Lankesh, well known journalist and social activist, editor of the Kannada publication Gauri Lankesh Patrike, was brutally shot dead at her residence on the evening of September 5, 2017. Gauri Lankesh was respected among those fighting for the rights of the exploited and oppressed, for her bold investigative writings exposing the crimes of those in power and her passionate appeal for justice for the victims of state terror.

Kashmir – an exposure of the real face of Indian democracy

After more than three months of continuous mass protests in Kashmir, and the killing of more than a hundred people in daily shootings by the armed forces there, the UPA government finally came up with its long-awaited policy measure to deal with the explosive situation there – an ‘all-party’ delegation visit to Kashmir to observe the problem first-hand! As the Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Srinagar reacted incredulously, “Doesn’t the government of India already know the situation that is prevailing in Kashmir?!” This latest move only confirms the utter bankruptcy of the Indian state, its inability to even pretend that it has a solution to the problem.

Prime Minister's message on Kashmir

Two months after the latest round of furious protests by the Kashmiri people began, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh finally chose to address the issue. This was at an “all-party” meeting convened in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Kashmir, from which many parties to the struggle there were conspicuously absent. Manmohan Singh’s remarks at the meeting were enough to dispel any illusions that his government was going to launch any fresh initiatives to solve the problem.

Sir,Operation Blue Star was the opening of the flood gates to a massive onslaught that would be launched against Sikhs in the coming months and years, which would tear asunder the struggles of the peasantry and the common working people. The use of massive violence then paved the path to the dovetailing of the people of India into the agenda of the bourgeoisie.

CBI organises cover-up and persecution in Shopian: Condemn the reign of terror in Kashmir!

The brutal rape and murder of two young women in Shopian, Kashmir in May 2009 in an area teeming with military and paramilitary forces had led to widespread strikes and demonstrations which continued for over two weeks, in which people demanded that the crime be properly investigated and the guilty servicemen be brought to book for their dastardly acts.
