Struggle for Human Rights

Sir, I found the article entitled “The struggle for human rights is in essence the struggle for proletarian democracy’’ in the December 1-15, 2010 issue of MEL to be of immense value and educational. It is in the highest tradition of scientific analysis of which the CGPI is the fountainhead. It is an article that is necessarily partisan as the CGPI is the vanguard of the working class.

The article clearly enunciates that we are at a stage when human rights have assumed a modern definition, due to the experience of the working people and the masses which says that all human beings have rights simply by the fact that they are human. That these are not realized today on the world scale is a reflection of the fact that the prevailing world order dominated by capitalist monopolies is unable to deliver even a modicum of rights.

By appealing to scare mongering over terrorism, declaring this or that country to be a rogue state, the ruling circles around the world have declared a war on human rights on an unprecedented scale. Internally, capitalist ruling circles have mounted an unprecedented war against labour and the masses, rolling back all the hard won gains such as humane working conditions, job security, eight hour work day, etc. By arming themselves with fascist laws they have crushed underfoot all the demands of labour. Such is the state of affairs as we mark the Human Rights day on December 10 of each year.

Ruling circles across the world have gained expertise at merely retaining form after stripping a thing of all content. It is a challenge for the working people of the world who are bring about proletarian democracy to wrest the issue of human rights away from the hands of the wretched bourgeoisie and to bring the issue to the forefront and to fruition. By its very nature, as the proletariat liberates itself, it will bring to life all that was nascent in society which has been set back by the parasitic classes.

On this occasion marking the Human Rights day, I wish to join the call of the CGPI on the struggle for human rights being the struggle for proletarian democracy.

Sincerely,
S. Nair, Kochi
