This eighth hike in petrol prices comes on top of skyrocketing prices of vegetables, fruits, milk and milk products, cooking oil, cooking gas, food grains, pulses, meat and all other essentials of life.

Whenever the price of petrol or diesel is raised the government claims that it is because of the “unaffordable subsidy”.  This is a blatant lie because petroleum product consumption is being heavily taxed in our country and not at all subsidized.  The “subsidy” in the central budget is less than one-tenth the total taxes collected from petroleum products.

The question of where sovereignty lies and should lie, in a modern society, has been posed very starkly by recent developments in our country and throughout the world. A public meeting was organized on 11th September 2011 by Lok Raj Sangathan in Delhi on this important issue. It was attended by activists from the movement for empowerment of people.

Infighting among financial oligopolies and imperialist governments

The legal battles reflect the contradictions among the biggest monopolies and financial groups, and between states that represent rival imperialist interests.  Such conflicts are growing acute alongside the contradiction between finance capital and the broad masses of working people.

Demonstrations at Haryana Bhavan in support of Maruti-Suzuki workers

Mazdoor Ekta Committee and Lok Raj Sangathan joined hundreds of activists of several organisations on 22nd September in a joint protest action in support of the struggles of the workers of Maruti-Suzuki. The protestors took out a militant rally from Delhi’s Mandi House to Haryana Bhavan, where they demonstrated.

Workers of Voltas, under the banner of the All-India Voltas Employees Federation limited, demonstrated for their rights at Parliament on 26th September. Voltas workers have been waging the struggle since the past 15 years, against the practice of not hiring permanent workers and against the contract system.

They have remained united in their demands for reinstatement of all sacked workers, recognition of their union and withdrawal of to "good conduct bond".

100 years ago Ghadar Party was formed by Indians in the US.It was historic milestone in our anti-colonial struggle.

The goal of this party was to organise a revolution to liberate our motherland from British servitude and establish a free and independent India with equal rights for all. It believed this to be the necessary condition for our people to hold their heads high anywhere in the world.
