Cyclone affected people in Tamilnadu protest apathy of state administration

The severe cyclonic storm Gaja, which struck the Tamilnadu coast at Nagapattinam about 300km from Chennai on early November 16, 2018, left massive death and destruction in its wake.

At least 46 people have been reported killed. Severe damage has been reported in over ten districts, including Nagapattinam, Thiruvarur, Pudukottai and Thanjavur.

Farmers struggle is advancing in Hanumangarh

Preparations had been on in the Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan for a huge demonstration, led by Kisan-Mazdoor-Vyapari Sangharsh Samiti, on 10th September in front of the head office of the district administration. In the meantime, the administration called the leaders of the Kisan-Mazdoor-Vyapari Sangharsh Samiti and assured them that all the issues would be resolved soon.

Railway contract workers

In 1994, the Central Adminstrative Tribunal, Chandigarh, had ruled that workers working with the Railways on basis of Casual Labour Service must be absorbed as permanent workers. Sixteen years, later, the Railways has refused to implement this directive. According to the rules, the Railways had to absorb these erstwhile casual workers as permanent workers, once it stopped recruitment of casual labour.
