Tamilnadu youth protest against NEET: Reflection of the anti-social orientation of medical education

Students meeting in ChennaiThe declaration of the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for medical colleges in June this year has been followed by massive protests by students and people of Tamilnadu. Before NEET was made compulsory this year for all states (exemption provided to TN in 2016 from NEET was withdrawn this year), the entrance to government medical colleges in Tamilnadu was based on the marks obtained by the students in the final school examination conducted by the Tamilnadu Board.

Medical students working in government hospitals in Tamilnadu fight strike work

In the last week of July 2014, over 3000 house-surgeons and Post graduate medical students under the banner of Interns and Postgraduate Association of Tamilnadu went on strike. In Chennai, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Theni, Kanyakumari and other districts of the state, these medical students boycotted work in the government hospitals.

Support the just struggle of the Resident Doctors of Maharashtra!

Increased allocation of financial resources for providing health care in the public hospitals. This is required for uninterrupted full supply of life saving medicines and instruments required for life saving procedures in the peripheral and district hospitals throughout the state. Currently there is a huge shortage of these items.
