Sir, I would like to join the CC of the CGPI in extending warm greetings to the working class on May Day 2010 and would like to second its call in its statement entitled “Employment, food, shelter; education, health care; water and electricity are our Rights!’’
At a time when the big bourgeoisie is flexing its muscle and is emerging as a confident imperialist bourgeoisie with ambitions of carving out their sphere of influence, the conditions of the working people of India is one of utmost devastation and penury. May Day 2010 comes at a time when there is simply no fig-leaf left to cover the depravity of the big bourgeoisie. Scandals after scandals abound in every sphere touched by this vile and reactionary class. And yet the people of India are told to believe in 9% annual growth and in slogans such as `India shining’. The bankruptcy is so great that the bourgeoisie resorts through its media and the elected officials and Government machinery to constant scare and rumour mongering, and threats due to internal and external supposed enemies to shore up some respectability for itself. Why should the people of India believe such statements from Governments that have condemned them to atrocious living conditions in cities and in the countryside, without so much as water, electricity, education, or indeed basic sanitation facilities? What is the hope that such Governments in future would be any different? The people of India must therefore realize that they are at this pass because the supreme power does not lie in their hands. It passed into the hands of the big business houses and their political parties in 1947. The constitutional machinery that is in place is to safeguard this state of affairs. The demand that the supreme power must rest in the hands of the working class of India must become a centre-piece of the struggle for emancipation. Indeed, it is only the working class when armed with the most modern theoretical tools that is capable of wresting power away from the big bourgeoisie. May Day is that day of the year when the working class makes a solemn remembrance of its historical role and mission. By articulating principled demands on the occasion of May Day in its statement the CC of the CGPI has once again proved its mettle as the vanguard of the working class. I once again reiterate the greetings to the working class on this day.
