On May 9, 2013, the Peshawar High Court ruled that US drone strikes on Pakistan that had resulted in deaths of thousands of people were illegal. It directed the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan to move a resolution in the UN against such attacks. “If the US vetoes the resolution, then the country should think about breaking diplomatic ties with the US,” the judgment said.

The High Court ruled that the strikes were illegal, inhuman and a violation of the UN charter on Human Rights. They must be declared a war crime as they kill innocent people. “The government of Pakistan must ensure that no drone strike takes place in the future”.

The US has been carrying out drone strikes on the border regions of Pakistan over the past 4 years and has rejected Pakistan’s repeated calls for halting drone strikes. President Obama of the US has personally ordered the drone strikes in complete disregard of the opposition not only of Pakistan, but also of peace loving peoples world wide.

The judgment of the Pakistan High Court is a reflection of the deep anger in that country against US imperialism’s blatant violation of the country’s sovereignty and its total disregard for human rights.
