The Communist Ghadar Party hails the courageous stand taken by people in many parts of the world against war, for peace and friendship between India and Pakistan. Following are brief reports from around the world.
A joint statement was issued by the National Committees (in India and Pakistan) of the Pakistan India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy (PIPFPD).
In India, groups of citizens, activists, students and artists came together on March 2 to campaign for peace and tolerance. They held parades, street plays, poetry recitals, film screenings and musical performances in Delhi and Mumbai to convey their message.
Over 600 concerned citizens have signed a petition against escalation of Indo-Pak conflict.
A joint statement by the Jammu Kashmir Awami Workers Party, Radical Socialist (India), Pakistan Trade Unions Defense Campaign and Haqooq Khalq Movement Pakistan (Peoples Rights Movement) on February 23 condemned the terrorist attack in Pulwama. The groups also condemned the government’s and office media’s war mongering.
The Jammu Kashmir National Students Federation (JKNSF) issued a statement addressing the working people and nationalities of the subcontinent to unite in struggle against war and against oppression of the people by their respective governments.
Students, alumni and faculty members of Harvard University issued an online petition urging governments of both countries to refrain from war and resolve issues through peaceful dialogue. The petition had garnered over 150 signatures within a span of 24 hours from students, alumni, faculty and other Indian and Pakistani employees of the University.
Indian and Pakistani students of Oxford University voiced their concerns against war mongering in a jointly held demonstration – ‘No To War: India-Pakistan Solidarity’ at Radcliffe Square, Oxford, on Monday, 4 March.
Indian, Pakistani, and international students from Brown University held a protest in this spirit of solidarity and called for peace in the South Asian region.
On Sunday 3rd March at 3pm Montrealers with origins in India and Pakistan as well as friends and allies, gathered to speak out for peace and against war and war-mongering by the governments of India and Pakistan.
In Chiang Mai, Thailand, women from India and Pakistan at the Asia Pacific Forum on Women Law and Development (APWLD) have expressed their growing concern on the escalation of conflict between India and Pakistan. They said, “Many lives have already been lost, including those of soldiers and civilians. We urge both governments to stop exploiting the spectacle of war to reap political mileage in the two countries at the expense of people’s lives, peace and justice.”
