On the 109th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Jan Chetna Manch organised a meeting on 28th September 2016 in D.A.V. School in Jakhal Tehsil of Fatehabad district.
Participants in this meeting included political workers, journalists, teachers, youth, women, boys and girls.
The meeting started with a welcome song sung by the students of the D.A.V. School. Subsequently, the participants in the meeting eagerly saw a presentation on the martyrs of India. The meeting was presided over by Professor Neeraj Sharma of the school.
Master Brijpal Jindal compered the program and welcomed everyone. He said that it was a matter of pride that we are releasing a collection of writings of hundreds of revolutionary martyrs like Bhagat Singh in our country who have served as ideals for the youth for decades.

Several speakers spoke on the political and economic situation prevailing in our country.
The speakers pointed out that Shaheed Bhagat Singh was from a revolutionary and well to do family and could spent his life in comfort if he wanted to. However, he chose a life of hardship and sacrifice for the cause of freedom from the British for which he earned the title of Shaheed-e-Azam. He ardently desired to establish socialism in India. His dream of a establishing a society free of exploitation, however, remains unfulfilled till today.
The main speaker from Lok Raj Sangathan said that from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in India as well as people of Pakistan and Bangladesh salute the revolutionary thoughts and spirit of sacrifice of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The British imperialists as well as the ruling class of India tried their utmost to malign Bhagat Singh’s name but they did not succeed. They could not quell the revolutionary ideas from the hearts and minds of the people so the rulers have decided to adopt him. Today, the rulers simply worship Bhagat Singh as an idol. Bhagat Singh himself was very much opposed to idol worship. On the other hand, the ruling class and its parties want to worship him like they worship the Gita, the Koran or the Bible. They want to prevent the toiling people and youth of India from discussing the revolutionary ideas of our martyrs. Hindostan Ghadar Party as well as Bhagat Singh had warned that after independence the power will be transferred from the British to “dark-skinned British”. This is what we see right in front of our eyes today.
He further said that the educational policy in the country today is a result of what the British officer Macaulay had envisaged. The principle he had enunciated was that if the British have to rule in India for a long time, then Indians should be educated only to be become clerks to serve the British Raj. They should not be imparted such education that will allow them to start using their own head. This same policy is continuing after independence. The aim remains the same that the children and youth should not raise questions and seek answers to why they are poor, why they are unemployed, why are farmers committing suicides, why, after hard toil, workers do not get wages for a decent life, why do the women of our country feel unsafe or why the people in our country are dying of hunger.
He said that our ruling class is privatising education, health-care, public sector enterprises and public services. Teachers who build the future of the country are made to work on contracts. The government claims that it is not its responsibility to ensure that the people are looked after or are prosperous and secure. This is how all the parliamentary parties think, no matter what the colour of their flag is. These parties work to ensure that people are kept out of power. Lok Raj Sangathan believes that parties cannot rule on behalf of the people. The role of the parties has to be to provide a vision and to empower the people so that people can themselves rule. People must have the right to select candidates, to elect and get themselves elected, including the right to recall their representatives. The right to decide on policies has to be vested into the hands of committees of people. This is the only way a modern political party can be defined. Then only we can make the dream of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Ghadaries come alive.
At the end of the meeting, the book entitled “Let us understand our martyrs” was released and Lok Raj Sangathan was honoured by presenting it with a picture of Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
