Victory for the united struggle of Nohar residents

On 19th December 2016, the residents of Munshari, located on the Ganganagar mega highway between Nohar and Bhadara, surrounded the toll plaza established by a private company by the name of Ridcor. The residents were upset about the toll charged by the toll plaza for people residing in the neighbouring villages. To demonstrate their opposition, they blocked the mega highway near the toll plaza using their vehicles.

The protest was carried out under the leadership of the All India Vice President of Lok Raj Sangathan, Comrade Hanuman Prasad Sharma and CPI(M) leader comrade Balwan Punia. After the toll plaza remained shut for more than two hours, the Tehsildar of Bhadara and the head of the Gogamedi Police station reached the site and tried to unblock the highway using the police force. The protesters, however, refused to budge till the local vehicles were exempted from paying the toll tax.

Afraid of the anger of the people and the rising tension, administration talked to the manager of Ridcor on phone. Manager sent an official to the protest site. The administration organised a dialogue between the protesters and the company official. The company accepted that toll tax will not be collected from the vehicles belonging to the neighbouring villages which are within 10 km. A written order was issued on the spot. After this the demonstration was ended. Angry people who had collected when the toll plaza was shut down shouted slogans against the government and the capitalist system. Speakers addressing the gathering condemned the policies of the central and state governments. They said that both the governments were serving the interests of bourgeoisie and were against the interest of workers and peasants.
