Inspiring article

I read the article, “The anti-worker and anti-national policy of privatisation must be exposed and resolutely opposed” in the February 1-15 issue of Mazdoor Ekta Lehar.  Reading this, I got to know of the conspiracy hatched by the government in its efforts to privatize Air India. I thank the Mazdoor Ekta Lehar for publishing such an article that exposes the “human face” of capitalist democracy to the working class. Working class youth like us get inspired by this.

The various efforts of the bourgeoisie and the government, which protects its interests, to privatize Air India was clearly elaborated in the article. The UPA, BJP led NDA and the present Congress governments have all left no stone unturned in their efforts to make Air India a loss making enterprise while several capitalists, political leaders and members of the bureaucracy made money from it.

The Board and management of Air India are fully responsible for the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines, shutting down of profitable international and domestic routes which led to the company’s losses. On the other hand, the management forced the workers to go on strike through delaying their salaries, denying their allowances, making them work longer hours and cutting down on all their entitlements.

The government tried its best to make Air India a loss making company whereas it could have been a profitable venture given its human resources and potential. Air India has huge acres of real estate that is coveted by Indian and foreign capitalists, who want to profiteer by getting their hands on it.

We, the working class, must understand that profit is what motivates this economic system. This system will never compromise on this. That is why we must work to fundamentally reorient this economy. It cannot be improved through some reforms to work in the interest of the working class. Just like the bourgeoisie will not compromise on its profits, the working class must not be satisfied with anything less than the elimination of this capitalist system.

With revolutionary greetings

Roshan Singh, Ballia, UP

Working class representatives from all over the country are gathering on 4th September, at a time when a titanic struggle is going on in our country. The struggle is between the majority of toiling and exploited people and a minority of exploiters. It is between the majority whose labour expands wealth and the minority who enjoy the fruits of wealth creation on the basis of their private property and positions of power.
