The statement starts with the preamble that the masses of the people are contesting the myth that we have a modern democratic system in the country.
I am thanking you for carrying the statement entitled "Indian needs a modern democratic state — statement of the Central Committee of the Communist Ghadar Party of India, 22nd January, 2013" in the February 1-15, 2013 issue of MEL. The statement starts with the preamble that the masses of the people are contesting the myth that we have a modern democratic system in the country. In particular, the statement poses the polemic in the context of the harassment of women in the country and the complete lack of security that fifty percent of the population faces. In particular, the statement emphasizes that the Indian ruling circles resort to violence and brute force to crush any opposition or to any demand with impunity. In the sphere of dialectics, the contest is shown to be the struggle between the old and the new. The latter is the colonial legacy which has been perfected by the ruling circles, while the new is struggling to be born.The statement also presents a thorough analysis of the existing scenario and proves that the response of any one who questions the old order is branded as a terrorist or a trouble maker and deserves to be locked away or done away with. The statement proves that the continuation of the colonial legacy is responsible for every ill that plagues Indian society, with the ruling circles using every means possible to continue their plunder and loot of the country. In particular, at this time, it is the big monopolistic capitalistic class that has come to the forefront and run the state machinery to defend their hegemony. Having said this, the statement articulates how the new order can be born only through revolutionary change and the demand is a new state with a union of workers' and peasant's republic. In the coming days this demand should be made the centrepiece of organizing so that a new India can be born. I would like to thank the CC of the CGPI for its tireless efforts in sharpening this message and issuing the statement on the 63rd anniversary of the 1950 Constitution of India.
