Three persons were killed in Maval, near Pune in Maharashtra, on August 10, when police opened fire on peasants who were protesting against a closed pipeline project on Pavna dam to facilitate water supply to the industrial township of Pimpri-Chinchwad. They were protesting against this pipeline project because it would affect the supply of water from the Pavna lake to their fields. The police chased the protestors and fired on them.

In a similar incident, Punjab police attacked  peasants who were marching towards Mansa to demonstrate against the forcible acquisition of their land by the state government. They were protesting the meagre compensation being offered to them while the government was giving away that land to a private company for setting up a thermal plant. The police surrounded the procession of peasants, and chased into the fields with a brutal lathi charge that resulted in the death of a peasant.

Mazdoor Ekta Lehar wholeheartedly supports the struggle of the peasants in defence of their right to their livelihood and unequivocally condemns the criminality of the state, in first, attacking their livelihood and then killing them when they protest the attacks.
