On 12th September, 2011, in the Manesar plant of Munjal Showa situated in IMT, workers sounded the bugle for a strike from 4 in the afternoon. They were demanding being made permanent employees instead of being treated as trainees indefinitely.

Munjal Showa is a very well known Shock Absorber manufacturing company of the world. Apart from Manesar it also has a plant situated in Gurgaon. They supply Shock Absorbers to Maruti Udyog, Hero Seal, Honda Scooter, Hero-Honda motors and other manufacturers of tyred vehicles. Munjal Company has technical collaboration with Japan’s Showa Company.

Majority of the workers in the company are well trained in the technical aspects of their work. In the name of training these workers are exploited for years and are paid the lowest wage possible. Whenever the workers talk about wanting to be given permanent jobs they are shown the door and fired. There is a huge force of workers who are working on the contract basis like this. The company is notorious at silencing the voices of the workers by using the force of Haryana Administration, the Police and the Labour Department.

The Managing Director of the company Yogesh Munjal has demanded for 10 acres of plot land from the Haryana Government to establish a plant in the Manesar Industrial Model Township. There is a proposal for procurement of shockers from the Maruti-Suzuki Corporation as well. Yogesh Munjal has claimed that this is a Profit making company. After exploiting the technical skills and labour of the workers the way they do, it is no secret that these capitalists are earning fat profits.

The correspondent of Mazdoor Ekta Leher reached the plant at 8 pm to find thousands of workers encouraged and enthused by the representatives of Maruti-Suzuki Employees Union, Mazdoor Ekta Committee and others who entered the factory gates and addressed the workers and supported their struggle.
