On June 24, 2012, nearly a hundred pilots —Captains and First officers — of Air India belonging to the IndianPilot's Guild (IPG) began an indefinite hunger strike in front of parliament. From June 25, 2012, over three hundred and fifty pilots began an indefinite hunger strike in Azad Maidan in Mumbai. They are demanding the reinstatement of their 101 colleagues to their jobs and the recognition of the IPG. At the time of Mazdoor Ekta Lehar going to Press on June 29th, the hunger strike was going strong and the pilots were planning a candle light vigil.

Family members of the pilots had also joined them in support of their strike.

The Communist Ghadar Party of India, Lok Raj Sangathan, All India Loco Running Staff Association and All India Voltas Employees Federation – Mumbai, and several other workers’ organisations are supporting the strike of the pilots.
