National Rural Health Mission workers

Following the decision of the Maharastra government to outsource some of the functions of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to private contractors, the NRHM workers of Maharastra went on a state wide strike from July 1, 2013. The workers are organized under the banner of the NRHM Adhikariva Karamchari Mahasangh.

Following the decision of the Maharastra government to outsource some of the functions of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) to private contractors, the NRHM workers of Maharastra went on a state wide strike from July 1, 2013. The workers are organized under the banner of the NRHM Adhikariva Karamchari Mahasangh.

The workers strike is reported to have severely affected health services in rural areas. The services provided by these health workers include immunisation, transportation of patients, hospital control room services, maternal health family planning and the Rashtriya Bal Suraksha Yojana. Many of the MRHM workers are ASHA workers engaged in immunization. Employees working on contract basis engaged in data entry and accounts work have also joined the strike.
