Massive Rally of the Working Class before Parliament

Lakhs of workers from across the country marched in a massive rally on to Parliament under the leadership of the Central Trade Unions, expressing their anger against liberalisation, privatisation and globalisation, and demanding control on the price rise, an end to contract system, a minimum wage of Rs.10,000 with dearness allowance, permanent status for contract workers and right to pension, among a list of 10 demands.

Besides the Central Trade Unions, representatives of unions, associations and independent unions of workers in various economic and service industries were present at the all-India rally. Alongside workers from government departments and public sector undertakings, workers from the service sector - banks, insurance, water supply, corporation and health, post and telegraph department, government transport, rickshaw, auto-rickshaw union, anganwadi workers and street vendors also participated in the rally.
