Peasant union in struggle

Memorandum submitted to the Union Agriculture Minister

The farmers of Ottanatham village in Tutucorin district of Tamilandu are up in arms against the callous behavior of the Agriculture Commissioner’s office. The Office of Assistant Agriculture Commissioner of Ottapidaram Taluk had provided foundation/certified seeds to the farmers to produce quality seeds for crop production on a large scale.

The farmers sowed these seeds on their land and harvested a large quantity of quality seeds of urad and moong dal. But the same department which supplied them the foundation seeds have refused to procure these seeds after the farmers have invested a lot of money and effort. The farmers have approached the district collector to take immediate action on this.

In the meanwhile, a delegation of Tamilnadu Peasants Union (Thamizhaga Vivasayigal Sangam) visited New Delhi and submitted a memorandum to the Union Agriculture Minister demanding that the Ministry intervenes in the matter and ensures that the farmers are not cheated of their just returns on their labour and monetary investment.

Manifesto 2014Unite around the program to reconstitute the Indian Republic and reorient the economy to ensure prosperity and protection for all!

There is growing realisation among workers, peasants and other self-employed people that the program of liberalisation and privatisation only serves to enrich an exploiting minority at their expense. Mass resistance is growing to this anti-worker, anti-peasant and anti-national program.
