Thousands of railway engineers from every zone across the country gathered at Jantar Mantar on 1st and 2nd December in response to the call of the All India Railway Engineers’ Federation. They were protesting against the government’s 7th Pay Commission.
It should be noted that the engineers make an important contribution to the Indian Railways. They have been fighting for several years for their rights on issues of hours of work, appropriate designation and salary and for their dignity.
This time, their demands included the cancellation of the 7th Pay Commission Report, recognition of the AIREF, time-bound promotions, cancellation of the new Pension Plan, and elimination of discrepancies in salaries of rail engineers.
