Imperialists, get out of Afghanistan!

Seven years after the US imperialist-led invasion of Afghanistan, the top British military commander in Afghanistan has gone on record saying that they cannot win the war in Afghanistan and that their military strategy is “doomed to defeat”. He said that the only realistic strategy now would be to try and reduce the level of insurgency there to “manageable” levels.

His words almost exactly echo the leaked secret dispatches of the British ambassador in Kabul to the British Foreign Office, excerpts of which were published in a French newspaper. The ambassador said that their only hope now would be to install a “strong dictator” there. Similar opinions are being widely expressed in official and media circles in other countries which have joined the US in sending troops to Afghanistan. Australia, Canada and other countries have started cutting back on their forces in Afghanistan.

Thus all the news reports from Afghanistan show that the US-led invasion and occupation of Afghanistan is heading surely towards defeat. In desperation, the US imperialists are turning the heat on Pakistan, accusing that country of “harbouring terrorists”. Every other day, US aircraft are bombing populated areas on the Afghan-Pakistan border, killing civilians, including women and children. Without even bothering to observe international laws about the sovereignty of states, the US has started sending ground troops across the border from Afghanistan into Pakistan, raiding homes and killing civilians. In an effort to ward off defeat, some voices in the US establishment are calling for increasing the level of troops in Afghanistan to 400,000 or more – a very difficult proposition under the circumstances. Others are proposing exploring the possibility of talks with some of the insurgent forces in Afghanistan, brokered by the government of Saudi Arabia or some other party.

Seven years ago, the US imperialists launched their worldwide “war against terror” with their invasion of Afghanistan. They claimed that Afghanistan was the centre of a worldwide terrorist conspiracy, and that it had to be subdued to protect “freedom” and “democracy”. The invasion of Afghanistan was followed by the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq, the escalating hostilities against Iran, the blackmailing of North Korea, the raids on Pakistan, and so on. In these seven years, the US imperialists have committed untold crimes against humanity, including the repeated bombing of innocent men, women and children, the large-scale destruction of towns and villages, and the brutal incarceration and torture of prisoners of war in their concentration camps such as Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib. In these seven years, the whole world has come to see who is the real terrorist and enemy of the freedom of the peoples. It is none other than monstrous US imperialism itself, which will stop at nothing to achieve its aims of establishing its complete supremacy in all corners of the world, at the cost of the ruin and destruction of whole countries and peoples.

Now the US strategy in Afghanistan has run into unexpected resistance, through the valiant efforts of the people in Afghanistan who have fought relentlessly to liberate their homeland, inflicting heavy casualties on the American and allied forces. While the US imperialists and their allies in this unjust war are manoeuvring to find a way out of their difficulties, the people of the world including the Indian working class and people must raise their voices and loudly reiterate their demand that the US and all other imperialists get out of Afghanistan immediately and completely! These imperialists had absolutely no right to set foot in Afghanistan in the first place, and they have no right to try and dictate what kind of political and other arrangements the Afghan people will have now or in the future. The occupiers must release all those whom they have incarcerated in their jails and concentration camps, whether in Afghanistan or abroad. They must immediately cease their pressure and attacks on Pakistan and on other countries. The people must also demand that the US imperialists and their collaborators not be allowed to get away with their crimes, but that they must be made to pay for them by standing trial as war criminals.
