On January 6th 2013, the Maharashtra Regional Committee of the Communist Ghadar Party of India organised a meeting of its members and supporters to celebrate the anniversary of our Party. Workers, many from the organised sector, women and youth were present in good numbers.

A few comrades of the Regional Committee made initial presentations. The capitalist imperialist world is in the grip of an all-sided crisis. While Anglo-American imperialism is going recklessly ahead, attacking various countries in its drive to rule the world, the Indian bourgeoisie is also pursuing an imperialist course. On the other hand, the struggles of the people are escalating, and the prevailing system is getting exposed to an increasing degree. The task of the communists is not to salvage the system, as many big communist parties are doing, but to organise the people and specially the working class to build their organs of power.

The next presentation elaborated on the Party’s stand that the Indian state is communal. Communalism is a favourite weapon of the bourgeoisie to divide, divert and disorient the people. No bourgeois party is a “lesser evil”. The demand raised by our Party of holding those in commanding positions guilty of the crimes has now been picked up by many in the movement. The overwhelming response to the campaign to punish the guilty of communal massacres is a vindication of the Party’s line on this issue.

While discussing the movement on violence against women, the comrade pointed out that violence against women is a weapon used by the bourgeoisie against the people, and that is why the various state agencies are the greatest culprits. The bourgeoisie has preserved patriarchy in its own interest. Women have to be in the forefront of the struggle for a society in which the human rights of all are guaranteed.

The next speaker elaborated the historic role of the working class as the gravedigger of capitalism. He explained the advances made by the working class since the time of the Paris Commune in the 19th century and the Great October Socialist Revolution in the beginning of the 20th century. He explained that it was absolutely essential to focus on the most advanced sections of the working class in our country and to organise them for the revolution.

In the concluding speech, the comrade gave an overview of the history and achievements of the Party – the circumstances prevailing at the time of its founding, its commitment to establish the dictatorship of the proletariat, to develop the theory of the Indian revolution, its fight against erroneous lines in the movement, and so on. Our Party is proud of the fact that it contains no factions and has never split. This has not happened due to chance, but because we have affirmed and followed the principle of democratic centralism.

When the floor was thrown open many comrades made important points in their interventions. A number of comradesand supporters, particularly the youth, asked several questions, mainly on the crisis confronting the world, on the various lines in the communist movement and on the future society that we are committed to usher in and build. These were answered by the presidium. The Regional Secretary pointed out that it was very essential for comrades to seriously pursue individual and collective study.

The meeting concluded with a number of revolutionary songs.
