The Communist Ghadar Party of India condemns the cold blooded, brutal murder of 84 year old veteran communist leader Govind Pansare.

Comrade Govind Pansare and his wife were shot at near their residence in Kolhapur, during their morning walk on February 16, 2015. He passed away on February 20, 2015,  after being on ventilator support in this period. His wife is still in hospital with critical injuries. Five days after this brutal attack, the Maharashtra government has not been able to catch the killers.

Kolhapur and all of Maharashtra have witnessed widespread protests ever since. Thousands of people came out on the streets of Kolhapur on hearing of the murderous attack on a beloved person. The leaders of all political parties in Maharashtra have unanimously condemned this murderous crime.

Comrade Govind Pansare's entire life was devoted to fighting undauntedly for the rights of the working class, peasantry, and all the oppressed and marginalized people. In recent times, he had been leading a popular campaign against the imposition of toll tax by certain private agencies on the highways. He had also been active in the struggle against attempts to provoke sectarian violence and hatred.

The murderous assault on Comrade Pansare has taken place in the climate of anarchy and violence that is spreading all over our country, and particularly in Maharashtra. Over the past few years, increasingly the voice of dissent is sought to be suppressed through violence and terror. Assassinations, arrests and torture, and false cases against activists fighting for the rights of people have become ever more frequent. Two years back, a well known rationalist thinker and activist of Maharashtra was murdered in a similar cold blooded crime. His killers have still not been brought to book. This is the dangerous trend, not only in our country, but in all the so called advanced capitalist countries of the world including the US and Britain.

The Communist Ghadar Party of India calls upon all communists, all those fighting for the rights of the toiling masses, to unite and oppose the spreading anarchy and violence, and step up the struggle against the dangerous anti worker, anti peasant and anti national course being pursued by the ruling class. The Communist Ghadar Party of India extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Comrade Pansare.
