More than 250 nurses of Asian Heart Institute Hospital finally rebelled when they could no more bear the cruel exploitation by the management. On 21st October, the third day of their strike, police brutally lathi charged them, injuring 4 nurses. When the hospital management recruits these nurses as trainees, they are forced to sign a 2 year bond and have to deposit their original certificates with the management. If some nurses are unable to withstand cruel working conditions and want to quit before 2 years, the management refuses to return to them their original certificates, thus forcing them to complete 2 years training. But this time the nurses refused to yield to the pressure and unitedly went on strike.

In hundreds of private hospitals of Mumbai thousands of nurses work in very exploitative conditions. Majority of the nurses are recruited as trainees. They are just provided a shared one room accommodation in the name of providing facility. They have to work in 12 hour shifts but are supposed to be 24 hours on call. Bigger the hospital in which they work, more is their exploitation and worse are their working conditions. Hospitals of course charge very hefty sums for treatment of patients. Hospital owners thus exploit the labour of nurses , doctors and other staff and earn huge profits. Mazdoor Ekta Lahar salutes the brave nurses who refused to put up with this super exploitation and raised their united voice.
