Massive protest demonstration in Mumbai against demonetisation!

On 28 November a massive protest demonstration was organised at Church Gate Station in Mumbai against the demonetisation announced by the Modi government. Over 400 activists of various communist parties participated in the protest demonstration including the CPI, CPM, CGPI, SUCI (Communist), Republican Party of India, Samata Vidhyarthi Aghadi, Lal Nishan Party, and Peasants Workers Party, and others. The activists protested against the great difficulty caused to people are large, and raised slogans with banner and placards.

Speakers from various parties addressed the demonstration, and said that demonetisation is a conspiracy of the Modi government to mislead the people, protect the capitalists holding black money and to convert their money to white. It is an irony that the party which won the election with the black money given to it by various capitalists is now turning around and claiming that it is eliminating black money through demonetization.

The speakers pointed to the problems of the peasants – the prices of agriculture commodities sold by the peasants have been falling following demonetization. As a result they are not able to purchase either seeds or fertilizers and other necessary items required for sowing the next crop

The speakers further said that the government is declaring that those who support demonetization are patriots and those opposing and anti-national, whereas the whole exercise is being carried out to waive off the loans given to the various capitalists. They said that government should have first got back the loans advanced to various capitalists and then announced demonetization.

The demonstration was addressed by Com.Prakash Reddy, Com Mahendra Singh, Com Anil Tyagi, and comrades from parties.
