Kurukshetra meetingOn 27 Feb 2017, the 6th regional conference of the Jan Sangharsh Manch was held in Kurukshetra to commemorate the 87th martyrdom day of Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad. The regional president of the Manch, Phool Singh presided over the meeting. The advisor to the Manch, Dr. CD Sharma was the chief guest. The other speakers at the meeting included Shyamsunder, the national coordinator of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Disha Manch, Kavita Vidrohi, convener of the student organization SOSD, Dr. Sunita Tyagi, convener of the Samta Mulak Mahila Sangathan, Ramniwas, leader of the Mazdoor Sahyog Kendra and Nagendra, leader of the Inquilabi Mazdoor Kendra.

The speakers vociferously condemned the divide and rule policy of those in power. They said that people’s attention is being diverted from the main issues by making them fight amongst themselves on issues such as Sutlej-Yamuna Link, reservation etc. They criticized the practice of branding those who oppose government policies as ‘anti-national’. They exposed Prime Minister Modi’s so-called ‘affection for Dalits’ by citing the examples of atrocities committed against Dalits. They denounced the government and administration to be guilty of discrimination against and harassment of people from the Muslim community. The oppression of people by the army in Kashmir and the north-east was also severely condemned. The leader of the student organization, SOSD, vehemently opposed the acts of hooliganism and police persecution committed against the students of Delhi University and gave a call to oppose the privatization of education and the clamping down on the right to free speech. While denouncing the increasing violence against women in Haryana and across the entire country, the leader of the Samta Mulak Sangathan gave many examples of how the government, police and judiciary always protect the guilty instead of punishing them. Over the past four years, the relentless persecution of the Maruti workers by levelling false cases against them was criticized by the leader of the Mazdoor Sahyog Kendra.

A call was given for united struggle against the change in labour laws, repression of workers’ struggles and the violation of workers’ rights. The leader of the MGNREGA Mazdoor Union described the plight of workers by reciting a poem.

The leader of the Jan Sangharsh Manch and regional secretary of the Shramjeevi Sangharsh Morcha, Comrade Somnath gave a call to redouble the movement against the anti-worker policies of the Haryana government.

While concluding the conference, the convenor called upon everyone to intensify the struggle to fulfil the dreams of Chandrashekhar Azad and the dream of establishment of socialism.

Working class representatives from all over the country are gathering on 4th September, at a time when a titanic struggle is going on in our country.
