Our Tasks

Sir,

This is with reference to the article `On the Present Situation and our Tasks: Assessment of the Plenum of the Central Committee, March 2017′ carried in the April 1-15, 2017 issue of MEL.

The Plenum was convened at a time of severe crisis of the international system and the intensification of fascism and war the world over. Indeed, with the ascension of the Trump Presidency, the US has transformed itself in an openly fascistic society both at home and outside.

There are so many examples of these, that there is little point in repeating them. The important implication to India and its people is the fact that the US is furthering its Asia Pivot policy by strengthening its relationship with Indian ruling classes to encircle China. India wishes to have US blessings in its aggressive posture towards Pakistan, and US in turn wants India’s support in Afghanistan.

The inevitable growth of contradictions between US and Germany are also there for everyone to see. At the same time, within India, the election results to five states are being used to strengthen the state apparatus to unleash further repression against all men and women of conscience, and to portray the policies of the Modi Government as the mandate of the people, while in reality it is the mandate of the big bourgeoisie. On the other hand, there is a continued growth in the anger amongst the people and the working sections who are fed up with this state of affairs. I am pleased to note that in the light of the 5th Congress the party paper will be further professionalized and will also take on the new role as a collective organizer.

I am also pleased to note that the Plenum has sharpened the tasks for the present situation, as we prepare for May Day and also for celebrations of the centenary of the great Bolshevik revolution.

May our Party Paper live long! May our party live long!

Sincerely,
A. Narayan
