The Forum of IT Professionals has clarified that “Over the last three months, up to 25,000 people have been sacked in the city by different companies. Some of terminations are brutal in that people who have put in over 10 years of experience are asked to sign on a paper, denied access and then asked to leave. These people have no recourse.”

An employee was asked to leave on return from maternity leave without any basis. Another, was asked to sign a stamp paper on ‘separation agreement’ that he will not contest the final settlement agreed upon.

The protesting employees have demanded that the government must come out with a white paper on retrenchments in the IT sector. Only this will confirm the number of people who lost their jobs. These employees pointed that there is no job creation in the Telangana IT sector. “The government is giving all goodies to the IT companies but they are not bothered about employees,” said one of the protestors.

The Forum of IT professionals demanded strict implementation of a host of laws like Shops and Establishments Act, Industrial Employment Standing Orders Act etc. beside an active role by Labour Commissioner. Currently, 1,600 petitions are pending before the Labour Commissioner. But no action is being taken.
