Militant protest action demands punishment for the guilty of the Kathua and Unnao rape crimes

Women’s groups and youth organisations participated in a militant protest action at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on April 12, 2018, demanding punishment for the perpetrators of the ghastly rape crimes in Kathua in Jammu and Unnao in UP. Hundreds of women, men, students and youth gathered at Jantar Mantar and marched to Parliament.

Demo against rape

Activists of AIDWA, NFIW, AIPWA, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, CSW, Swastika Mahila Samiti, Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan, AISA, SFI, KYS and other organisations participated in the protest action. A public rally was held at the Parliament, which was addressed by leaders of all the participating organisations.

Speakers unanimously condemned the brutal rape and murder of the 8 year old girl Asifa in Kathua and the gang rape and victimization of the young woman in Unnao. They highlighted the involvement of top officials of the State and security forces, both in carrying out the ghastly crimes as well as in defending the culprits. They denounced the state and the governments in power, for failing to protect women and for protecting the rapists instead. Several speakers expressed shock and disgust at the deep communal division of society that our rulers systematically carry out, as a consequence of which mobs sponsored by the ruling party are coming out on to the streets openly defending the rapists and murderers. In order to deflect the people’s anger from the rulers and their state, efforts are being made to paint the protests against these crimes in communal colours and portray them as “Pakistan sponsored”. Speakers demanded the strictest possible punishment for the criminals.

Speakers included leaders of ADIWA, NFIW, AIPWA, Purogami Mahila Sangathan, Swastika Mahila Samiti, CSW, Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan, as well as youth and student leaders.

Parties of the capitalist class claim that there is no
alternative to the program of globalisation, liberalisation
and privatisation. The truth is thatthere IS an alternative.

The alternative is to reorient the economy to fulfil people’s
needs instead of fulfilling capitalist greed. This is the
