Working class struggles around the world

Workers have been fighting against their increasing exploitation, for job security, better wages and working conditions as well as against retrenchments and cut-backs in jobs. They have held massive protests against attempts of goverments to change labour laws in favour of the capitalists. They have been expressing their anger against their governments which are openly defending the interests of the capitalist monopolies at the expense of the working people. They have been opposing the steps taken by their governments to privatize basic services such as health, education and public transport, and hand them over to the big monopoly capitalist corporations. Workers have been demanding a new orientation of the economy which will provide for all, rather than ensure the super-profits of a handful of monopoly capitalist corporations.

In October 2018, hundreds of thousands of workers, students and retired workers came out on the streets of Paris and other cities of France opposing the pro-capitalist amendments to labour laws and the attacks on labour rights by the government. The protestors also demanded an increase in wages, pensions and an end to privatisation. People across England, including health workers, have been waging a series of struggles against the government’s attempts to privatize the National Health Service.

Workers have been resolutely opposing the attempts by the state to spread racism and xenophobia, to divide people along religious and communal lines, to attack the immigrant workers and thereby attack the rights of all the workers.

People of Europe and Canada have held massive protests against the NATO war mongering alliance. People in Japan have protested against militarisation. Peoples in the Korean Peninsula, in Europe and North America, have been protesting against war and aggression, in support of disarmament, peace and friendship amongst nations.

The Palestinian people have continued their heroic struggle against the brutal onslaught of the Israeli armed forces on Gaza.
