Condemn the terrorist massacre in Sri Lanka

In one of the most horrific terrorist massacres in recent times, at least 215 people have lost their lives, and over 450 injured, in a series of bomb blasts in Sri Lanka on April 21.

The terrorist bomb blasts were deliberate targeted at people of the Christian faith. April 21 was Easter Sunday, a day when devout Christians in Sri Lanka as well as the rest of the world were in their churches. Precisely at the time when the churches were full of praying devotees, bomb explosions took place in at least 4 churches in the capital Colombo and in the Eastern town of Batticaloa. Bomb explosions also rocked three prominent hotels in the Sri Lankan capital. According to the Sri Lankan authorities, at least 35 of those who lost their lives in this dastardly attack are foreigners, including three Indians.

The Sri Lankan government has imposed curfew. It has called for calm, and taken measures to prevent the spread of unverified rumours through the social media. At the time of going to press, no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for this gruesome massacre.

The Communist Ghadar Party condemns the terrorist attack on innocent people in Sri Lanka. We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims of this terrible tragedy. The deliberate targeting of places of worship, the carrying out of this attack on one of the holiest days for Christians, is aimed at inciting hostility between people and setting them against each other on the basis of their religious faiths. The Communist Ghadar Party firmly believes that the people of Sri Lanka, having suffered a brutal civil war which claimed lakhs of lives, will oversome this terrible tragedy and defend the unity and solidarity of their peoples.
