Condemn the brutal state organized attack on JNU students!

Statement of the Central Committee of Communist Ghadar Party of India, January 6, 2020

The Communist Ghadar Party condemns the murderous attack on students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University on the evening of January 5. Goons armed with iron rods and lathis, their faces masked, entered the campus and unleashed savage violence and mayhem. Over 20 students and teachers, including both women and men, have suffered grievous injuries in this pre-planned, state organised attack.

The students and teachers of JNU have been waging a continuous struggle against every attempt of the authorities to privatize JNU. When the students of Jamia Millia Islamia were brutally attacked on December 15 for daring to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), the students of JNU came out in powerful solidarity, alongside of students of other universities in India. They have been playing an active role in the struggle of our people against the CAA and the NRC.

The savage violence unleashed against students of JNU is an indication of the desperation of the Central government to crush this mounting struggle of people. On December 26, Home Minister Amit Shah had threatened to “teach a lesson” to people who were opposing the CAA. He had, in the same breath, blamed the struggle of our people to get the government to repeal the CAA as being the work of the “tukde tukde gang”. For past 4 years, the government has been doing false propaganda against students and teachers of JNU, painting them as “tukde tukde gang” who want to break up India. It is clear that the attacks on students of JNU on January 5 was state-organised.

That the attack on JNU students was state organised is confirmed by the role of the Vice Chancellor of JNU and the Delhi Police. The Vice Chancellor did not call the police into the campus until the murderous goons had carried out their plan. The Delhi police prevented people, who had come to defend and express their solidarity with the JNU students, from entering the campus. On the other hand, the police escorted the goons safely out of the campus gate when they had done their dirty work.

The Communist Ghadar Party of India extends its full support to the students and teachers of JNU in their just struggle for their rights.
