Protest in Ludhiana against state-organized violence in Delhi

Thousands of people from more than a dozen organisations of industrial and agricultural workers, peasants, youth and students, etc. held a protest rally on March 10, at the Jalandhar by-pass in Ludhiana, to protest against the CAA, NRC and NPR, as well as the recent state organized violence on Muslims in Delhi.

Ludhiana Rally Against State Terror

The protestors raised slogans like “Long live the brotherhood of Hindu-Muslim-Sikh-Christian workers” and “Death to Fascism” at the rally. They also passed a resolution in support of their demands, which included that the CAA-NPR-NRC be immediately repealed, all detention centres be closed and the people detained be released, communal violence being incited be stopped and those inciting violence be arrested and punished. The resolution also demanded that all forms of attacks against those protesting, including the protesters at Shaheen Bagh, be stopped and that action be taken against those police officers involved in the attacks on students of JNU and Jamia Millia Islamia University.

Representatives of the participating organisations who addressed the rally pointed out the similarities in the 1984 massacre of Sikhs and the recent violence targeting Muslims in Delhi, to conclude that these were not “communal riots” but rather they were planned and executed by the party in power with the help of the entire state apparatus. Speakers condemned the BJP government for raising the issue of CAA/NRC/NPR to divide the people and divert their attention from the attacks on the livelihood of the workers and peasants, the privatization of public sector enterprises and vital social services such as health and education, the growing attacks on our democratic rights, etc. They condemned the attacks on the oppressed nationalities, dalits and all those who are opposed to the agenda of the rulers.

The rally called upon people of all communities, castes, religions, including women, youth, students, intellectuals, farmers and workers, to unite and fight against unjust laws and against the attacks on civil and democratic rights.
