Decisive verdict for a republic in Nepal

Decisive verdict for a republic in Nepal

On April 10, 2008, the people of Nepal voted to elect a 601 member Constituent Assembly that will draft a constitution, a fundamental law, for their country.

People’s Voice / Mazdoor Ekta Lehar congratulates the people of Nepal in the successful holding of the elections for the Constituent Assembly.

As we go to the press, the results have started coming in. The first results indicate that the people of Nepal have voted decisively in favour of the democratic republic and an end to the monarchy.

These are moments of great expectations for the people of Nepal. The path ahead of the Nepali people is not an easy one. Neither the internal reactionaries, nor the hostile foreign players like the US imperialists and Indian ruling circles, can be expected to be silent. However, the people of Nepal have shown in the past their courage and maturity in the face of difficult situations. MEL/Peoples Voice wishes the people of Nepal all success in their struggle to build a new Nepal according to their aspirations. As always, MEL/Peoples Voice will consistently expose and oppose the machinations of the Indian ruling class against the people of Nepal.
