Protests against land acquisition in Jharkand continue

The Jharkhand Adivasi Sangharsh Morcha continues to spearhead the protests of the tribal peoples against amendments to the Chotanagpur Tenancy Act and the Santhal Pargana Act that define land use in the state. On March 5th, the Morcha organized a rally at Jantar Mantar to register the continued opposition of the people to the acquisition of tribal lands for industry.

Meanwhile, the state government continues to push ahead with its measures of giving away land at concessional rates to the biggest capitalists. On March 4th, the government held a farce of a public hearing in Godda district claiming that the affected villagers have consented to land being made available to Adani Group for a proposed power plant.

Leaders of the Morcha and other organisations that joined the protest, warned the Modi government that the people would organize an economic blockade of the state, if the Centre continues to ignore their opposition to the land acquisition for private industry.
