October revolution victoriousThe supression of the Kornilov-led revolt clearly showed that the tide of revolution was rising. There ensued a period of bolshevistation. Factories, mills and military units held new elections and sent to the Soviets representatives of the Bolshevik Party in place of the Mensheviks and Socialist Revolutionaries.The Petrograd and Moscow Soviets went over to the Bolsheviks, forcing the resignation of the Mensheviks and Socialist Revolutionaries.

On November 7, Red Guards and revolutionary troops occupied the railway stations, post office, telegraph office, the Ministries and the State Bank. The Pre-parliament was dissolved. The cruiser Aurora trained its guns on the Winter Palace, and their thunder ushered in a new era, the era of the Great Socialist Revolution.

Privatisation of Air India is an anti-social act to fulfil monopoly capitalist greed

On 28th June, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave its “in-principle” approval for a “strategic sale” of the central government’s ownership share in Air India to a private company. Finance Minister Jaitley justified the decision to privatise Air India by claiming that it is a waste of public money to keep operating this loss-making airline.

The Code of Wages Bill 2017

The Code on Wages Bill, 2017 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on 10 August 2017 by the Modi government. The new bill is to replace the Payment of Wages Act -1936, the Minimum Wages Act – 1949, the Payment of Bonus Act - 1965 and the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976. The Wage Code Bill is a part of the so called labour law reforms that the government has undertaken by “rationalisation” of 38 Labour Acts.

Condemn the Neglect of Safety of Passengers by the Indian Railways!

In a tragic incident in Elphinstone Road Suburban Railway Station, Mumbai on 29th September2017, at least 23 people were killed and many more severely injured, in a stampede on a railway bridge connecting Central and Western railway suburban stations. After facing flak from all corners and after seeing the wide spread anger of people reported, the Maharashtra government and Railway administration were forced to show that they are doing something.

Letter on the Rohingya refugee crisis (II)

Sir, I am writing to thank you for the important and informative article on the ongoing Rohingiya refugee crisis (article bears the same title) in the October 1-15, 2017 issue of MEL. I would like to first of all express my sincere regret and sadness at the plight of the people who have been displaced from their homes in Myanmar. I would also like to join you in condemning the attitude and the behaviour of the government of India that has said that they would send them back to Myanmar possibly into the hands of certain oppression under the military and government of Myanmar.

Judgment on Godhra train burning

Judgments on several aspects of the 2002 Godhra train burning case were delivered by the Gujarat high court on 9th October.

The Godhra train burning case refers to the train that was returning with passengers from the site of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya that had been demolished in 1992. As many as 59 pilgrims on board were charred to death when a coach of the train was set on fire. This incident was used to organize large scale massacres of Muslims across the state.

Rousing programme in Kurukshetra on the occasion of Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s birth anniversary

ThumbnailOn the 111th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the Jan Sangharsh Manch organized a revolutionary programme in Kurukshetra, Haryana. Thousands of workers, women and youth participated in the programme. In the morning, as a token of respect and in memory, flowers were placed on the statue of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Disha Sansthan. After this, a massive people’s march was led through the streets and lanes of the city with rousing slogans inspired by the revolutionary message of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. This march reached the Ramlila ground in Kurukshetra after which a large mass meeting was organized by the Jan Sangharsh Manch, Haryana.

Hundreds participate in march against privatization of health services in Britain

ThumbnailHundreds of people participated in a protest march against the privatization of the National Health Service (NHS). The march began at Southhall and culminated in a rally at Ealing common.

The protest rally was organized in the wake of the concerted efforts of the British government to privatize the National Health Service, and close down various public hospitals.
